In contrast, I really enjoyed Age of Charlemagne for Attila for doing just what WoS did to R2. WoS isn't necessarily 'bad', but it was certainly not the sort of campaign I found all that exciting since the base-game rosters were already a bit thread-bare and WoS pulled a few more strands away (no pikes, fewer swords, etc.). which is sort of the exact opposite of what people normally want to do in R2 and Attila (or even in TW in general). Further, it encouraged players to actively avoid conquering capitol cities of the other Greeks. it removed pike units, and you were left with pretty much nothing but a couple basic sword units, lots of hoplite units (which were basically all identical, just in three different tiers), and some low-tier slingers and archers and cavalry. Personally, I found WoS to be just a step back.
